August 13, 2008 (Tara, ON) – Meet young people from across
Ontario, explore Bruce County and improve your communication skills
– all part of this unique experience!
The Bruce County Plowmen’s Association is looking for young women
to compete in the Queen of the Furrow competition at the Bruce
County Plowing Match in Lion’s Head on Friday, August 29.
“Being Queen of the Furrow is an amazing opportunity to proudly
represent agriculture and your county,” says current Bruce County
Queen of the Furrow, Carrie Waugh. “You have an opportunity to meet
many people and make connections that will last forever.”
Interested young women that are residents of Bruce County and
between the ages of 16 and 25 (as of December 31, 2007) are
eligible. The competition includes a 2 to 3 minute speech on any
topic pertaining to agriculture, a short interview with a panel of
judges, and plowing. A tractor and coach will be provided for
plowing, and while plowing knowledge is an asset, it is certainly
not necessary.
This year’s Bruce County Plowing Match will be held at the farm
of Jerry and Debbie Mackie, south of Ferndale. The Queen that is
chosen will represent Bruce County at events and functions
throughout 2009, and will compete for the Ontario Queen of the
Furrow title at the International Plowing Match (IPM) and Rural Expo
in New Liskeard, September 2009. Bruce County will host the 2008 IPM
and Rural Expo from September 16-20 in Teeswater.
For more information, call Ruth Ann Waugh (519) 534-2206.
Deadline for registration is August 22, 2008.
