Teeswater, Sept. 3, 2008. County officials hope to offer something a
little different for visitors to the Plowing Match this year.
Anchoring the northeast corner of the match site encompassing 3 huge
tents, the County Showcase will feature some of the major icons and
activities found in the Bruce. Beginning with giant 30’ towering
walking sticks at the entrance, to a replica of one of the
Flowerpots found in Bruce Peninsula National Park to a Lighthouse
from Southampton, the showcase will intrigue people to Explore. “The
goal is to re-create this very impressive and diverse County all in
Teeswater.” Says Chris Hughes Tourism Manager for the Bruce County.
“The IPM is a celebration of rural life and we are so blessed to
have the mix of prime agricultural land and some of the best
recreational opportunities anywhere in the Country. We want to
‘tease’ match goers and give them a sample of what surrounds them.”
Also new this year is the Official IPM Adventure Passport.
Operating similar to the Explore the Bruce Adventure Passport,
attendees will have 5 days to complete this ‘match only’ passport
and receive a free walking stick. Completed passports will also be
entered to win great camping prizes from Fisherman’s Cove. “We have
10,000 walking sticks to give out over the 5 days, we are going to
make people work a little for them. You have to find a minimum 7 of
the black boxes located throughout the site” Hughes states. The IPM
Adventure passport will be available at all information booths and
at the County Showcase.
Other highlights will include:
- Local animal displays
- Giant campfire to roast marshmallows
- Horseshoe pit
- SCUBA Tank
- BMX/Bike track
- Recreation of the Bruce Trail
- Shipwreck dig
- Sauble Beach
- Hockey shootout
- Casting pond
- World’s Longest Picnic Table - Record Attempt
- County Stage – featuring all local entertainment
- County Fair – showcasing all local rural clubs, groups, and
associations
The County is extremely proud to part of the 2008 IPM and hopes
that through it display will create even more memories for visitors.
***Staff will be onsite from now on for photo opportunities
