A Parade was held Tuesday morning featuring Ontario Premier Dalton
McGinty and leader of the Opposition John Tory along with many party
members. Past Bruce County, Ontario Queen of the Furrow
representatives Dawn Brunton (1976), Cheryl Leifso (Hammell) (1998),
Jennifer Chrisite (2006) and Vanessa Klages (2007) were special
guests who officially opened the IPM cutting the ribbon during a
noon hour ceremony.
Plowing Competitions began Tuesday for Horse, Antique and Tractor
Competitors. Scores accumulated between Tuesday and Friday go
towards a final placing with prizes presented at the OPG Plowing
Awards of Excellence. Ontario Queen of the Furrow Katie Cheesmond
won the VIP Plowing Class sponsored by Bruce Power. (Complete Day 1

RVer’s booked in the Trailer Park were welcome to enter the site
again while the grounds around the outside of Tented City continued
to improve. IPM spokesperson Cheryl Leifso says "We have seen a
drastic improvement to the condition of our IPM Tented City Streets
and Avenues offering a nice, dry walking area allowing IPM visitors
to see the shows and exhibitors, no need for rubber boots anymore!"
Early attendance figures suggest more than 10,000 people were on
site Tuesday. Many more people are expected to visit before the IPM
closes Saturday.
Wednesday Ontario’s Lieutenant Governor David C. Onley is expected
to attend the IPM being on the main stage about 11:45am. Bruce
County Warden Milt McIver welcomes many special guests including
Ontario Wardens to attend the IPM and plow in the VIP Area. For the
first time, Queen of the Furrow Competitors will plow within Tented
City Wednesday afternoon about 2pm beside the "Best of the Past"
Antique Area.
The 2008 International Plowing Match operates 8:30am to 5:00pm,
until Saturday September 20th on the McKague Family Farm north east
of Teeswater. |
