The International Plowing Match in Bruce County will soon open the gates for it’s fifth and final day of operation.

Friday night, the Ontario Power Generation Awards of Excellence was held at the Teeswater Community Centre to recognize and honour the Plowmen and women who have been competing all week at the IPM. After four days of competition tractor, horse, antique and reversible plowing awards were presented. Greg Timbers, Barry DeGeer, Bob Campsall, Bert Beyens, Brandon McGavin and Keenan Freid all qualify to advance to compete at the 2009 Canadian Championships. (See complete results listed below).

A Junior Plowing Match will be held Saturday open to young people learning how to plow.

Organizers have been more than pleased with the overwhelming response from the exhibitors, having a sold out Tented City of displays; the tens of thousands of people visiting over four days; and the opportunity to showcase the people and places of Bruce County.

Attendance figures Friday indicate more than 21,000 people were on site raising the four day total to 66,000 IPM visitors.

Saturday a parade will be held at 10am, added to the program after Tuesday’s opening event was scaled back because of the site conditions after a weekend of rain. It is expected a number of exhibitors and IPM Floats will wind through the streets of Tented City.

Team Farmall, Square Dancing Tractors continues to attract a huge crowd with performances Saturday at 11, 1 and 3pm in the Antique area.

An Auction will be held at the Foodland Lifestyles Area about 12:15pm. Offering for sale, the 10 foot, 8 sided Gazebo made by Walkerton District High School Students with support from Tim-Br Mart. Also Bruce County’s IPM Mascot "Baby Bruce" will be sold for the Bruce County Cattlemen’s Association who are donating the proceeds to the Sick Children’s Trust to support Sick Children’s Hospital in London. Other consigned items include: Picnic tables made from recycled bale plastic boards donated by Lucknow Co-op; 12 benches made by the local Mennonite Community; 9 picnic tables in 6, 7 and 8 foot lengths part of the Guiness World Record attempt; a Cedar Arbour; Rustic Tables and Benches; the IPM original Poster art by Ken Thornburn; Peterbuilt Collector Trucks #7 and #9; and an autographed Hockey Jersey by: Doug Gilmour, Macel Dionee, Dave Ellett, Rick Ley, Dale Hawerchuck, Paul Coffey, Steve Thomas, Don Lever, Chris Bolton (Rent a Goalie, Actor), Jim Cuddy of the band Blue Rodeo and Kevin and Clark Pollock well know NHL Referees.

The Education Area will still be operating Saturday offering the learning opportunities to parents and their children.

Today is the last chance to complete the IPM Passport visiting selected locations around the IPM. Completed cards can be redeemed for a walking stick from the Bruce County Showcase area.

Closing Ceremonies and the awards presentation for the Junior Plowing Match will be held on the Main Stage Saturday afternoon at 4pm.

The Harold Nie Memorial Special was awarded to the best horse plowed land by a first time competitor at the IPM. Presented to Dale Drake of Woodville.

Class 2 - Group 1: Plowperson using 2 Furrow Plows, reached their 10th birthday, no older than 16 as of the first day of the IPM
Champion: Jacob McGavin of Walton, Reserve: Carrie Davenport, Owen Sound.

Class 2 - Group 2: 2 Furrow plowing, between 16 and 20 as of the first day of the IPM.
Champion: Brandon McGavin, Walton, and Keenan Fried, Bright.

Class 2 - Group 3: 2 Furrow Plowing, Contestant must have reached their 20th Birthday
Champion: Mark Vaarkamp, Hagersville, Reserve: Steve Haney of Seaforth.

Class 2 - Group 4: 2 Furrow Plowing, Contestant must have reached their 20th Birthday
Champion: Jim Ferguson of Sunderland, Reserve: Ron Stinson of Kempville.

The Robert Taylor Memorial Trophy to a first time competitor with the highest aggregate score in Class 1, Groups 1 and 2. Shannon Little of Monkton.

Sidney Sisler Memorial Junior Champion Plowperson: Brandon McGavin of Walton.

The John S. Moffatt Memorial Trophy to the top Drag Plow Winner: Ken O’Brien.

Class 3 - 3 Furrow Plows
Champion: Dave Bryson of Watford, Reserve: Justin Hawkins of Thamesville.

Class 4 - Plowperson using 4 or more Furrows
Champion: Allen Millman of St. Thomas, Reserve: Dave Woodman of Wolfe Island.

Class 5 - Group 2 Reversible
