On 23 March at noon, the 2008 Bruce County IPM officially opened the 08
IPM
Headquarters. It was through the work of Dave Barrett of the Saugeen
Business Development Centre that the 08 IPM Headquarters became an
actuality. He assisted with the completion of an application to Human
Resources Development Canada for a grant under the "Job Creation
Partnership
Program." The application was successful, and Lynne Frank will fulfill
the
position of Office Administrator for a one year term.
150 people gathered on the main street, Highway 4, in Teeswater to take
part
in the Grand Opening. Vanessa Klages, Ontario Queen of the Furrow,
welcomed
everyone and introduced the dignitaries. MPP Carol Mitchell, who brought
congratulations and good luck wishes, presented Jack Riley with an
Ontario
flag to be flown beside the IPM site sign. Ron Oswald, speaking on
behalf
of Mitch Twolan the Warden of Bruce County who had a last minute
engagement,
brought a message of well done and encouragement from the County. Bill
Goetz, Mayor of
South Bruce, mentioned that the IPM is an opportunity to
showcase and promote the Municipality, and that the Municipality is
prepared
to provide as much support as possible. The Ontario Plowmen's
Association,
represented by Graeme Craig, Bob Hammell, Kathy Lasby and Barb
McAllister,
wished the 2008 IPM Committee good luck and good weather for 2008.
Unfortunately, Larry Miller, MP Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, Paul Steckle, MP
Huron Bruce, and Bill Murdoch, MPP Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound were unable to
attend.
IPM 08 Chairperson Jack Riley introduced the IPM 08 Executive consisting
of
Mac Inglis, Jim Armstrong, Gloria Bell, Bob and Phyllis Hammell, Brent
and
Cheryl Leifso, Ralph Kreutzwiser, Jim Sloan, Les Nichols, Don and Liz
Stobo.
Mr. Riley also introduced Janelle Dietrich, Bruce County Queen of the
Furrow, Wayne and Wendy McKague, the host farmers, and Barry Ribey,
President of the Bruce County Plowmen's Association. Following the
ribbon
cutting ceremony, 135 guests/supporters enjoyed an excellent lunch
provided
by the Formosa Lions Club which was held in the Teeswater Town Hall
across
the street from the 08 IPM Headquarters. As a souvenir, everyone who
took
part in the ribbon cutting ceremony received a piece of the ribbon.
