On Sunday, 20 May 2007 at 3:00 p.m. the 2008 Bruce County IPM Site Sign
dedication and unveiling commenced. Over 200 people braved the cold wind
and grey skies and stood along Highway 4 at the northern edge of
Teeswater
to witness the uncovering of the Sign. Among the people gathered was
Hayley
Fischer, Teeswater Fall Fair Junior Ambassador. Erected on four 6X6 18
foot
posts, the six panels designed and produced by Karen Stanley of Ripley
were
covered with a blue tarpaulin. In their kilts of Land of the Isles
Hunting
Tartan in Ancient Colours, the Teeswater Highland Pipe Band marched
along
Highway 4 and led everyone to the location of the sign. Once at the
Sign,
the Band entertained while the dignitaries arrived.
Phil Main of CKNX welcomed everyone to the event and introduced the many
dignitaries. Greg McClinchey, representing Paul Steckle, MP Huron Bruce;
Carol Mitchell, MPP Huron-Bruce; Bill Murdoch MPP Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound;
Mitch Twolan, Warden of Bruce County; and Bill Goetz, Mayor of South
Bruce
brought greetings, wished the IPM well, and congratulated those involved
with the IPM. The Sign was dedicated and the IPM blessed by Reverend
Harvey
Osborne from Knox Presbyterian Church in Teeswater, Reverend Doug
Kaufman
from the Teeswater United Church, and Mr. Bob Meyer representing the
Teeswater Roman Catholic Church.
The IPM Executive of Mac Inglis, Jim Armstrong, Gloria Bell, Bob and
Phyllis
Hammell, Ralph Kreutzwiser, Jim Sloan, Les Nicols, and Don and Liz Stobo;
Chris Hughes of Bruce County Tourism; Barry Ribey, President of Bruce
County
Plowmen's Association; Lynne Frank IPM Headquarters Office
Administrator,
and Wayne and Wendy McKague and family, the host farmers, stood and
watched
as Vanessa Klages, Ontario Queen of the Furrow, and Jack Riley, 2008 IPM
Chairperson, pulled the cords and the blue tarp gently fell revealing an
impressive two sided sign. Following the Pipe Band, people marched to
the
Yokassippi Auction Building for cake and refreshments. The cake made and
decorated by Barb Vyhnal, of Walkerton, served 200 people and was
impressive
with the 2008 IPM logo in icing.
Many people make an event such as the Site Sign Unveiling possible and a
great success. Steve Stuempfle of Prestige Contacting, Cargill, erected
the
sign. Perry McKnight, of Southwestern Signs and Graphics, provided the
tarp
and installed it so that it would fall on cue. Brandon Vanderwel, of
Shoreline Stone and Garden Centre in Port Elgin, has volunteered to do
the
landscaping around the sign. Ken and Ruth Ann Scott supplied the sound
system and provided the Yokassippi Auction Building for the
refreshments.
And last but not least, the ladies from the local churches served the
cake
and refreshments.
