On 6 March 2008 at the Walkerton LCBO, the 2008 Bruce County
International
Plowing Match (IPM) wine was launched. Mary Eadie-Wiley, who grew up
near
Holyrood, introduced the IPM wines from 20 Bees Winery. Both the red
and
white are VQA (Vinter's Quality Alliance) which means that they are
100%
grown and produced in Ontario. The wines are "down-to-earth,"
approachable,
and are fun and friendly. The balance of fruitiness and acidity
comes from
Niagara where the grapes are grown. The white is a 2006 Chardonnay,
unoaked. It is fresh, crisp and has a lively fruit taste that hints
of
green apple, peach, and Bosc pears. It is a great sipping wine that
goes
well with grilled pork, chicken, fish, pesto sauces and mild
cheeses. The
red is a 2006 Cabernet-Merlot. It is also a great sipping wine but
goes
well with red meats, roasted poultry, and slightly aged cheeses. The
taste
hints of red berry fruit, black cherry, eucalyptus and pine. The
wines were
created to compliment all the foods available in Bruce County.
Bruce County politicians, Warden Milt McIver and Mayors Bill Getz,
Ron
Oswald, Charlie Bagnato, Larry Kraemer, and Mitch Twolan represented
the
County and demonstrated their support of the 2008 IPM. The Mayor of
the IPM
Tented City, Wendy McKague, mentioned that the wine was a wonderful
contribution to the 2008 IPM. Graeme Craig, the new President of the
Ontario Plowmen's Association (OPA), and Bob Hammell, Bruce County
OPA
Director, thanked everyone for coming to support the occasion, Bruce
County,
and the 2008 IPM.
Roland Anstett, Manager of the Walkerton LCBO, and LCBO staff Corrie
Kotsouolos and Cheryl Fleet were very helpful and cheerful to both
the
customers who came in to shop and the many Bruce County IPM
volunteers who
came to show support and sample the newly launched IPM wines.
Working
together and helping each other was obvious.
The IPM wine is available and can be purchased in area LCBO stores,
can be
ordered from the Walkerton LCBO at 519-881-1362, and for other LCBO
locations throughout Ontario that carry the 2008 IPM wine, go to
www.lcbo.com.
Please help to enhance this spirit. See you at the 2008 Match from
16 - 20
September at Teeswater.
