Crowning the 2009 Ontario Queen of the Furrow
They’re young, they’re talented and they can plow a furrow! On September 15,
2008, 34 young women will travel from all over Ontario to Bruce County to
compete in the Ontario Queen of the Furrow Competition at the International
Plowing Match (IPM). Each Queen of the Furrow contestant represents a different
region of Ontario.
Being a Queen of the Furrow is not just about wearing a crown and sash. A
panel of three judges will spend three days with the contestants. Each
contestant is judged on deportment, an interview, plowing and a speech. The five
finalists will each give an impromptu speech at the Queen of the Furrow Banquet.
Katie Cheesmond from Wellington County is the 2008 Ontario Queen of the Furrow.
She has spent the year travelling across Ontario as an ambassador for the
Ontario Plowmen’s Association and promoting the 2008 International Plowing
Match. Katie will crown the new Ontario Queen of the Furrow at the Queen of the
Furrow Banquet on September 18, 2008.
